St. Louis City SC may select up to five players in Friday night’s draft
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 10, 2022) – Charlotte FC today announced the Club’s protected list for the 2022 MLS Expansion Draft (Friday, November 11, 7:00 p.m. ET).
Clubs are allowed to protect 12 players from their senior and supplemental rosters from being selected. The following Charlotte FC players are protected:
- Brandt Bronico
- Nathan Byrne
- McKinze Gaines
- Kamil Jozwiak
- Kristijan Kahlina
- Adilson Malanda
- Vinicius Mello
- Daniel Rios
- Nuno Santos
- Karol Swiderski
- Kerwin Vargas
- Anton Walkes
Additionally, the following players are automatically protected as Homegrown Players (25 years old and younger in the year which the Expansion Draft takes place) or Generation adidas players that have not yet graduated:
- Ben Bender (Generation adidas)
- Chris Hegardt (Homegrown)
- Derrick Jones (Homegrown)
- Jaylin Lindsey (Homegrown)
- Brian Romero (Homegrown).
St. Louis City SC may select up to five players from the eligible pool of players, claiming only a single player from any one club.
Clubs that have a player selected in the Expansion Draft will receive $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM).
The following Clubs are exempt from this year’s expansion draft due to Charlotte FC selecting one of their players last season:
- Atlanta United FC
- Austin FC
- D.C. United
- Los Angeles FC
- New York City FC
