CHARLOTTE, NC (Friday, January 6, 2023) – Charlotte FC today announced the complete 2023 first team coaching staff led by Head Coach Christian Lattanzio.
Andy Quy, who has signed a new contract with the Club, returns as Assistant Coach alongside new additions Christian Fuchs and Pa-Modou Kah. Aron Hyde joins as Head of Goalkeeping from the U.S. Men’s National Team, and Rohan Sachdev joins as Head Video Coach from the Portland Timbers.
“We are very excited to announce a strong, experienced coaching staff for the upcoming season,” said Sporting Director Zoran Krneta. “We believe that Andy, Christian, Pa, Aron, and Rohan will bring together a diverse set of experiences and qualifications under Head Coach Christian Lattanzio’s leadership. Assembling a talented technical staff is critical for us to achieve our goals as a Club, and it demonstrates that high-level coaches believe in our project here in the Carolinas.”
Andy Quy has signed a new contract with Charlotte FC, officially returning as an assistant coach. He originally joined the Club ahead of the inaugural season as Head Goalkeeper Coach, later being named Interim Assistant Coach. The Englishman has over a decade of experience in the Premier League with Stoke City, along with successful stints in the Championship with Brentford FC and Burton Albion, and holds his UEFA A Coaching License.
Christian Fuchs, Charlotte FC’s captain during the Club’s inaugural season, will transition to the coaching staff as an assistant coach following his retirement from professional soccer. The former Austrian national team captain had a storied, 19-year career that featured a Premier League title with Leicester City. He finished his career with 577 total club appearances and 78 caps for Austria, culminating with his final season at Charlotte FC where he made 27 appearances as club captain. Fuchs currently holds his UEFA B Coaching License and is in the process of earning his UEFA A Coaching License.
Pa-Modou Kah, who also joins as an assistant coach, is an experienced former defender with four years of MLS experience after two seasons each at the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps. Prior to his time in MLS, the Norwegian’s career featured stops across the world, including a league title in Norway with Vålerenga along with stints in Sweden, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. He also has 10 caps for the Norwegian national team.
Kah retired from professional soccer in 2017 and immediately began building an impressive coaching resume. He has served as an assistant for both the Vancouver Whitecaps (2017-2018) and FC Cincinnati (2019). The Norwegian, who speaks seven different languages, then began his head coaching career, first leading Pacific FC to a 21-8-14 record in the Canadian Premier League over two years, where he was named 2021 CPL coach of the year. In 2022, Kah was named head coach of North Texas SC, the MLS NEXT Pro side for FC Dallas, leading them to the playoffs and a 13-7-5 record in their inaugural season. Kah also holds his UEFA A Coaching License.
“True to our identity, we are excited to assemble a coaching staff that will improve our players and help them reach their full potential,” said Technical Director Bobby Belair. “Our players have big goals for themselves, both individually and collectively, and the player development standards we have created will help us be successful for years to come. With their diverse experience, knowledge, and winning mentalities, these high-character individuals will help us win matches and continue to attract top talent.”
Aron Hyde joins Charlotte FC as Head of Goalkeeping from the U.S. Men’s National Team, where he also served as Goalkeeper Coach. He helped lead the USMNT to trophies in the 2021 Concacaf Nations League and the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, before qualifying for and coaching in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Hyde also has nine seasons of experience in MLS, most recently with Atlanta United FC where he helped Atlanta’s goalkeepers concede the fourth-fewest goals in MLS in 2017 and 2018. Prior to Atlanta, Hyde spent six seasons with Chicago Fire FC as Goalkeeper Coach. Hyde, a former professional footballer who holds his UEFA A Coaching License, has experience playing with Walsall FC, Wycombe Wanderers, and Millwall FC in England.
Rohan Sachdev joins Charlotte FC as Head Video Coach from Portland Timbers, after two seasons as their Head of Analysis in 2020. Prior to his time with the Timbers, the Clemson University graduate spent two years as the video coach for LA Galaxy and one year as the video coach for the Houston Dynamo and RGV FC Toros.
Brian Edwards, who served as Interim Goalkeeper Coach under Christian Lattanzio, will remain with the Club in a new role with Charlotte FC’s MLS NEXT Pro team. Further details on the full MLS NEXT Pro coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
