CHARLOTTE — Karyn Latorre has been appointed Head Athletic Trainer for Charlotte FC’s Academy, the club announced on Friday.
Latorre will oversee all aspects of medical treatment within the academy, including treatment of injuries, physical return-to-play protocols, concussion testing and adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.
A native of Colombia, Latorre played soccer at college level in North Carolina at Gardner-Webb University, before forging a successful career as an Athletic Trainer with Major League Soccer teams including Orlando City and Philadelphia Union.
“Karyn is a vital addition to the team,” says Charlotte FC Technical Director Marc Nicholls. “She offers a wealth of experience at Major League Soccer level and has excellent knowledge of the area through her college playing career. Karyn checks all the boxes for what is needed in this role.”
Latorre’s wealth of experience at professional level is augmented by a full complement of licenses and certifications from national and international governing bodies. Most recently, she was accredited with a Diploma in Football Medicine from FIFA.
“We’re really happy to bring on board a Head Athletic Trainer with experience in two MLS academies and a college-level playing career,” says Charlotte FC Academy Manager Dan Lock. “Karyn is a fantastic addition to the team, whose bilingual communication skills are an asset in an academy with a significant proportion of players from a Hispanic background.”
Employing her expertise in injury prevention, first aid and athletic training, Latorre will provide medical support at all Academy levels on match days and in training sessions.
“I am delighted to join this incredible project and be part of this talented staff,” says Latorre. “Using my past experiences, I’m looking forward to providing the best care to these promising players.”
