CHARLOTTE – One of the cornerstones of Charlotte FC has been veteran defender, Christian Fuchs, who has captained the team every single match this season thus far. As soon as the final whistle was blown against the New England Revolution, Fuchs dropped to his knees with a glowing smile on his face.
“Amazing. I think after the game you saw how much it meant to us. I’m just so proud, honestly just so proud that we finally made. I think we have shown with every game so far that we can win the games.
“I’m very proud of the consistency over the four games, constant development, and with the heart we played today. Finally resulting in the win that I think was overdue and well deserved.”
It was an all-around excellent performance from the team, and even in the stints that New England had momentum, the team stayed strong and resilient to get through them.
“It [the performance] was excellent. The way we dominated the ball, the way put men forward, and playing with the ball in their half. Which for us is the most important one. To have control over the game and possession in their half.
But you can always assume that a team like New England will have their spells throughout the 90 minutes, the resilience we that we showed then, that’s how you win games.”
While it’s still early in the season, CLTFC has shown consistency in their ability to compete in every match, consistency that was rewarded on the night but must continue for the long season ahead.
“What I’m trying to tell the boys before every game, throughout the week, that the only way we can succeed is if we can consistently show the performance and desire in trainings and in the games. This consistency will eventually turn the games in our favor.
“It’s still the beginning of this journey. We are only four games into the season. There is still a lot of things that we need to figure out and get to know each other. Today was a good start but we gotta stay humble, it was one win.”
If anyone has an excuse to savor the win for a longer period it’s the star of the match, Karol Świderski. But his focus has already shifted onto the next match against FC Cincinnati.
“We created some good opportunities, we scored three goals, but we had opportunities to score even more goals. But the most important thing is to take all three points and now we need to forget about this game and think about the next one.”
