Experienced broadcaster becomes first member of Club’s English language broadcast team for matches on WSOC-TV and TV64
CHARLOTTE, NC (Thursday, September 30, 2021) – Charlotte FC today announced broadcaster Eric Krakauer has joined the Club’s local broadcast team as play-by-play announcer for English language matches on WSOC-TV and TV64.
Krakauer, who joined BeIn Sports in 2017, has called games featuring the world’s biggest leagues, teams, and players, including Spain’s La Liga, France’s Ligue 1, the UEFA Champions League and two Copa Libertadores finals. In addition, he was on the call when Charlotte FC Head Coach Miguel Angel Ramirez won the Copa Sudamericana title with Independiente del Valle.
His journalistic roots also extend to Major League Soccer. While living in New York, Krakauer began covering the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC beats, the latter of which was during their expansion season in 2015.
“I’m very excited to be joining Charlotte FC’s broadcast team ahead of the Club’s inaugural season and look forward to helping connect the Carolinas to the world of soccer,” said Krakauer. “The Charlotte community has embraced this team from the day the Club was announced, and it’s a privilege to return to Major League Soccer and bring the sport into homes across the region.”
Originally from Portugal, Krakauer moved to New York to play soccer collegiately at Manhattan College. Beyond his work for BeIn Sports, the broadcaster has featured on DAZN calling MLS games for the Brazilian market, TUDN’s LigaMX coverage, and pay-per-view matches of COMNEBOL World Cup Qualifiers.
Earlier this year, Charlotte FC announced it’s first-ever television partnership with three local Charlotte stations owned by Cox Media Group. Matches in English will be broadcast on WSOC-TV (ABC Charlotte) and WAXN (TV64) while the Spanish language broadcasts will be on Telemundo Charlotte.
“We’re delighted to welcome Eric to our broadcast team and his wealth of experience calling games across multiple leagues and competitions, including Major League Soccer, makes him the perfect fit for Charlotte FC’s English-language coverage,” said Club President Nick Kelly. “Eric’s addition is just the start of our commitment to fans to bring them the best regionally-televised broadcast in the entire league.”
Further details on Charlotte FC’s broadcast team for the inaugural season will be available in the coming weeks.
