Former Premier League & MLS player joins Eric Krakauer on Club’s English language broadcast team for matches on WSOC-TV and TV64
CHARLOTTE, NC (Tuesday, December 7, 2021) – Charlotte FC today announced Lloyd Sam has joined the Club’s local broadcast team as color analyst for English language matches on WSOC-TV and TV64. He will join play-by-play announcer Eric Krakauer.
Sam, who played at all four professional levels in England and throughout the United States’ professional pyramid, racked up 149 appearances in Major League Soccer between the New York Red Bulls and D.C. United. Additionally, the Ghanaian international began his career in England where he played for seven different clubs, most notably Charlton Athletic and Leeds United.
Since retiring from professional soccer, Sam has transitioned to the broadcast booth, calling games for the United Soccer League (USL), MLS NEXT, and Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers.
“I am thrilled and consider it great privilege to be joining Charlotte FC’s broadcast team. It being the inaugural season makes it even more special. I can’t wait to connect fans across the Carolinas to the action on the field,” said Sam. “I look forward to bringing the expertise I have built up during my playing career through to viewers via a fun, personal style.”
Earlier this year, Charlotte FC announced its first-ever television partnership with three local Charlotte stations owned by Cox Media Group. Matches in English will be broadcast on WSOC-TV (ABC Charlotte) and WAXN (TV64) while the Spanish language broadcasts will be on Telemundo Charlotte.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Lloyd to our broadcast team and his extensive playing experience across multiple leagues will be an important addition to Charlotte FC’s English-language coverage,” said Club President Nick Kelly. “Having a former MLS player who can share his significant knowledge of American soccer will be a vital part of delivering on our commitment to bring our fans the best regionally-televised broadcast in the entire league.”
Full broadcast details of Charlotte FC’s schedule are expected in the coming weeks.
