CLTFC acquire player’s Homegrown Territory Exclusivity from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for $50,000 General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2023
CHARLOTTE, NC (Wednesday, December 21, 2022) – Charlotte FC today announced the Club has signed midfielder Brandon Cambridge from University of Portland to a contract until 2024 with option years in 2025 and 2026.
Additionally, CLTFC has traded $50,000 General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2023 to Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for the 20-year-old’s MLS Homegrown Territory Exclusivity. Vancouver would also retain a percentage of any future transfer fee Charlotte receives for Cambridge and up to $100,000 in future conditional GAM if certain incentives are met.
Cambridge played 42 games for Portland across three seasons, where he scored sixteen goals and had thirteen assists.
“We were really impressed with Brandon during our scouting across the country at the collegiate level as we prepared for the 2023 MLS SuperDraft. We are pleased to sign him to a Homegrown MLS contract as we continue our goal of developing young, talented players,” said Sporting Director Zoran Krneta. “Brandon has shown his potential at Portland and during his time in the Vancouver Whitecaps youth academy. We look forward to having him join us.”
In November 2022, Cambridge was named the WCC Offensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Pilot to win the award.
