Artists Matt Moore & Matt Hooker revealed a new look for Charlotte’s soccer team with a spectacular mural in South End
CHARLOTTE—Since its unveiling in July, Charlotte FC’s coin-inspired crest has become part of the fabric of the Queen City. From car decals in parking lots, to fans repping merch in local bars, it represents the growing excitement for the arrival of Major League Soccer in 2022.
On Tuesday, the club revealed a new ‘Tricode’ design that is set to become synonymous with soccer throughout the Carolinas.
Unveiled at The Brickyard in South End with a mural created by celebrated artists Matt Moore & Matt Hooker, the new motif reflects the way in which Charlotteans uniquely refer to their city: the Tricode.
The CLT Tricode, which has become shorthand for the city among locals, originates from the three-letter international identifier code for Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
It is accompanied on the new monogram design by Charlotte FC’s four-point crown, symbolizing the city’s royal legacy and its four original wards. This marks the first time the iconic crown has been used outside of the confines of the radial crest.
If you call the Carolinas home, you will undoubtedly be familiar with the CLT Tricode” said Charlotte FC Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Meredith Starkey. “Today, we introduce a new mark which brings together the Tricode with the iconic crown of our club, representing our city’s team for many years to come. We are also excited to launch a brand-new range of merchandise featuring this mark, available immediately online and at our team store.”
“We’re just getting started and look forward to many more moments with our fans as we march towards our first match in 2022.”
Fans who stopped by the new mural Tuesday morning were able to purchase coffee in specially branded Charlotte FC cups from local traveling pop-up espresso bar, Coordinates Coffee.
“The new Tricode design is really striking,” said David Gusler, president of the Mint City Collective supporters’ group. “It’s very modern and clean, and the crown perfectly symbolizes Charlotte’s foundation. I, for one, will be looking forward to adding to my merchandise collection with that logo!”
Merchandise featuring the new Tricode design is now on sale at mlsstore.com and at the Team Store at Bank of America Stadium.
