A last-minute penalty and subsequent goal proved to be the difference in Charlotte FC’s 1-0 loss to New England Revolution.

The first 10 minutes of action featured a flurry of promising chances for Charlotte.

Although the results did not yield an early goal, the heavy pressure on the attack helped set the tone for the remainder of the match from both sides.

Two great chances for Charlotte by midfielder Pep Biel and striker Idan Toklomati nearly broke the deadlock. Biel’s effort was swiftly saved by Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner, while Toklomati saw his shot hit the post.

In the second half, Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina made a brilliant one-handed denial to keep things scoreless.

Chaos ensued in stoppage time.

In the 94th minute, the referee blew the whistle and awarded a penalty to New England after a handball by Charlotte. Carles Gil then converted from the spot to give the hosts the lead.

Charlotte had brief opportunities in the 100th minute, but a frenetic rally came up empty.

Next up for The Crown is a four-game home stand that commences next Saturday against FC Cincinnati. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 pm at Bank of America Stadium.
