Jaylin Lindsey: "Our mindset is that this is a revenge game"

CHARLOTTE – Charlotte FC defender Jaylin Lindsey has just signed a contract extension with the Club. As a Charlotte native, it's extra special for his family and him. Lindsey is thrilled with the extension but he doesn’t plan on becoming complacent.

“Even though I signed this extension, it doesn’t mean I’m going to back off a little bit just because I got a contract. I just have to keep working, I can always be better, do better. That’s my mentality.

“Now it’s trying to win trophies, win games, be more consistent... I’m pleased to get the contract but the goal is to be a dominant team throughout this league. We want to be one of those teams where teams hate to play us.

“My main goal is to bring a cup here one day. I know that takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, and a lot of patience. But that is one of my goals. To bring at least something here, whether it’s U.S. Open Cup, CONCACAF Champions League, or MLS Cup.“

“To set a standard of this being a Club that can win trophies. That’s my goal through 2025.”

Lindsey has been a mainstay for CLTFC, playing every single minute this season. Something that has only given him more confidence and drive to continue improving.

“It means a lot. As a player, if you ask any one of those guys who are consistently playing every minute of every game, it just gives you an extra boost of confidence. In the back of your head, that coach believes in you and they want you to keep playing because you’re an important part of the team.

“For me, I take it as they are confident in me which makes me want to play even harder and better. I think I’m getting better and better each game, so hopefully, they still have that confidence in me to keep playing me consistently.”

The Crown is playing their first revenge match of the season against Atlanta United this weekend. The first encounter between these teams ended in heartbreak for CLTFC who conceded in the 96th minute to lose the match.

“Our mindset is that this is a revenge game. We went there, I thought we played well, but we kind of gave up a last-second goal. But it was something to learn from. I tell people all the time that we are just starting out as a team, we are still getting used to each other, and sometimes things are going to happen where we will just have to learn from.

“We learned a lot from that Atlanta game, hopefully, we can put it into perspective, be the better side, and get the W this weekend.”
