Miguel Ramírez: "I felt really proud of what I was watching"

WASHINGTON, DC – Charlotte FC’s head coach, Miguel Ramírez has got his first official MLS game under his belt. It was a performance that Ramírez was proud of but wished the score line was more reflective of the effort his team put in.

“I would have liked to have had a final score line that was more fair. But especially in the first part of the first half and large portions of the second, I was really enjoying the game and I felt really proud of what I was watching, especially knowing that we are just starting out.

“We were arriving in the final third more and better than them [D.C. United]. But they converted their chances and we didn’t. Those are the areas where you have to make a difference in order to win the match.

“I believe that in the second half we were able to recognize the game that we needed to play. WE were controlling much better and playing less direct. We had much more control and had better quality arrivals and chances. We need to keep working on that. The ways we can reach the final third.

“We were competing really well, but we are new, really really new. We are still young boys, we made mistakes, and we made a few mistakes in the first half. And in two moments they [D.C. United] had, they scored two.

“We tried much more, we had more chances and control and ended up going into halftime down 2-0. We missed a bit of luck as well, eh?”

In addition to his team’s performance, another positive for Ramírez came by way of the CLTFC fans who made the trip up to D.C. and were heard and felt throughout the entire game.

“Amazing... Thank you [the fans], thank you all that came to support us. We felt your energy and we need you. We need you. It’s still the beginning and as I said before it will be difficult. But it will be easier with the help of our supporters of course.

“I would like to go outside and tell them personally just how much I appreciate them. We have felt them and that we are so excited to see them again next Saturday to hopefully give them a victory.”
