Smith will provide Academy players with educational support and tutoring, and will oversee their community outreach efforts. She will also manage the Academy Homestay Program.
In addition to a background in University admissions counseling, Smith offers a wealth of experience in teaching English as a foreign language. Most recently, she has taught at institutions in Buenos Aires and Madrid.
“We’re very excited to have Sara join our growing staff,” says Academy Manager Dan Lock. “Sara’s background in education, tutoring, college admissions and bi-lingual teaching makes her a perfect fit for this role.
Smith will provide in-person tutoring and will act as a liaison between schools, players and parents. In addition to ensuring educational needs are met, her role will focus on the developmental and emotional wellbeing of Academy players.
“Sara will be integral to ensuring we develop well-rounded players, who are well supported off the field,” adds Lock.
Smith will also oversee the Homestay Program, which will include support for current Homestay families and managing new applicants. She will also ensure Academy players are committed to and engaged in community outreach initiatives.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be a member of the Charlotte FC staff,” says Smith. “I am beyond excited to use my unique experience to help our talented student athletes to be prepared for every future opportunity. I will do my very best to be a support to our students in their homes, schools, and classrooms.”
